Neil Melliship is a partner of the firm and the Chair of its Technology and Intellectual Property Group. Neil graduated from the University of British Columbia Faculty of Law in 1985.

Neil’s practice is focused on technology and intellectual property matters. His clients include a wide array of computer software developers, hardware and electronics manufacturers, major financial and insurance service providers, public bodies and other businesses involved in developing, commercialising or acquiring information technology-based products and services. The advice provided to such clients includes complex legal issues relating to the Internet, domain name disputes and e-commerce.

Neil has written a number of articles on intellectual property matters, including a summary of the Canadian trade-mark registration process, a review of the licensing provisions under the Canadian Trade-Marks Act, a guide to choosing enforceable trade-marks and various articles on official marks, and the .ca Domain Registry. He has also been an instructor in intellectual property law for the British Columbia Institute for Studies in International Trade and has been a presenter on technology licensing issues for BC Continuing Legal Education.

Neil is a co-founder of and regular contributor to the Canadian Trademark Blog (trademarkblog.ca).

As well as intellectual property and other technology related issues, Neil also provides advice on Canadian immigration matters, including the acquisition of Work Permits and Permanent Resident status.
